A therapist’s most important role in helping families reduce childhood obesity is to understand the challenges and barriers that families experience when trying to make lifestyle changes and then supporting them through the change process the Director of Endurance--A Sports and Psychology Center, Inc., Dr. Cory Nyamora, said.

He was speaking to therapists at a workshop he led at San Francisco’s Valliant International University on Thursday April 21st, 2011. Dr. Nyamora’s presentation explored common barriers to weight loss and effective strategies to improve the health of young people.

Dr. Nyamora is a licensed clinical psychologist, a certified USA Triathlon coach, a USA Track and Field coach, and a youth fitness specialist. He provides services at a leading weight-management program at Children's Hospital Oakland. Dr. Nyamora works closely with families to find fun and effective strategies to improve their children's health.
