About Carey Shaffer, PsyD. - Clinical Psychologist
Carey Shaffer is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Wellness Coach who has been working in the field of mental health and social services for more than 16 years. She received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2004 from the California School of Professional Psychology, with a focus on feminist, multi-cultural and forensic psychology and her Wellness Coaching degree from ICF accredited Wellcoaches School of Coaching in 2016.
During the past 16 years, she has further specialized in forensics (working with incarcerated adults), adolescents (depression, anxiety, trauma and suicide risk assessment), foster care and adoptive youth and families, Parent-Child-Interaction-Therapy (PCIT) and mindfulness-based approaches to treatment. Using mindfulness-based approaches, as well as her own meditation practice, she works to cultivate acceptance, self-compassion and an awareness of one’s present experience. In her spare time, Dr. Shaffer is an avid backpacker, hiker and marathon runner.
